The success of any person requires determination, hard work and almost extreme persistence. According to Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Get Rich, “Most men find failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to replace those that failed.” Not only is this true, but it is the tonic to follow when it comes to getting to live on what we like: you always have to have a plan b, c, d, and … to achieve success.
As it is easier said than done, in Good Finance we have got to work and have compiled 5 steps you can take to start making money doing what you like:
Know how much money you need to live.
This is the most important step and probably one of the most complicated. Most people don’t know where their money is going and, unfortunately, they don’t have time to find out.
Before overwhelming yourself thinking about how to start to square everything, we recommend the use of personal finance apps such as Good Finance that, a private manager, the application will organize in one place all the expenses of your banks and cards in categories (what you spend on gas, clothes, mortgage, car loans, children’s school …), it will show you in graphs how you spend month by month and will notify you instantly whenever they charge you commissions, pass you duplicate receipts or are in red numbers, avoiding the penalty of your bank, among other alerts.
Once you know what you really have, you will know how much you need for your project. It may be that you already have some savings and are not sure how much to invest, or how much it will be enough to leave for contingencies and maintain your quality of life.
An emergency contingency fund is usually 6 times your monthly recurring expenses; that is, if your monthly expenses amount to about € 1045, your emergency fund should be at least € 6270, although it varies greatly depending on each case.
Good Finance will help you make better decisions and detect all those additional expenses you don’t need, to suppress them and maximize your money. You are likely to discover that the things that you now think you need are usually the short-term antidotes for the feeling of dissatisfaction you have in not loving the work we do.
Evaluate your situation
Find out where you are with respect to your work. Take this test if you are not sure how you feel about what you do every day. What would you really love to do what you do? When you think about this, you may discover that you do not have to change jobs or, why not, discover that you do not need more money to make ends meet and, assumed this, start enjoying your work. Many of us need only a kind of reconfiguration of the role we play in the company or a change of department to be happy. Otherwise, you may discover that you need to change your life drastically, and decide to undertake that project that you have been putting off for years.
Create a vision
If you have decided to undertake, you have to keep in mind that you can not start anything without first having a clear vision of what you want and how you want it. Remember to be an aspiration, but realistic! Once you know and define in detail what your goals and timings are, you can start rowing to your destination and you will know if you are doing today will benefit you or not to reach your goals.
List of fears
What prevents you from having a job you love and being able to live off it? Do you lack confidence? Do you feel you don’t deserve to achieve your dreams? Do you lack the support of other people who encourage you to take the big step outside your comfort zone? Write down and review these fears. Do you think they are compelling reasons? Do you think they are valid arguments? Work to overcome these fears and barriers that prevent you from moving forward and reaching your dreams.
Take 3 actions per week to move towards your goals
Start right now. List three things you can do this week to achieve your goals. Next week, write down and perform three more. Before you know it, you will be dedicating yourself to what you like.
Before we said that “it is easier said than done”, and as we know that the road is not easy, from Good Finance we offer to accompany you day by day from your Smartphone, taking care of keeping your money controlled so you can focus all your time and effort in what really matters: you.
